Charlie

 s_charlie_2.jpg

Charlie came to us as one of four dogs and three cats abandoned by a neighbor in April 2013. Two of the dogs were adopted and went to Canada and one puppy died. Charlie is the only one left from this group. We could only ever catch one of the cats which was adopted the same day. Charlie was very mistreated by the family that left all the animals behind and they also admitted to hating him. He was a special needs dog and would bite if handled. He is now a lot better and doesn't try to bite us anymore. In fact he rolls over for a tummy rub. He needs special people with a lot of patience and no young children. He gets on with other dogs.  He is around four years old and a small dog. Once he trusts you he would make a great little companion. If you would like to give Charlie a chance at a home life and have the patience to win his love then you would have a great little dog that will make you laugh with his quirky personality.

Ayla Now adopted

ayla4.jpg

Ayla is one of Winnie’s Puppies and sister to Milo and Louie. She was born on the 21st January and is all white. She is the largest of the litter. Her Mom is a small black terrier type dog so we are guessing she will be small. She is currently 5 1/2 weeks old and will be ready for adoption in 6 -7 weeks. She is a very pretty and feisty little pup.

Sugar

Sugar.jpg

Sugar once had a human friend who provided for his needs but that “so called” friend left him behind when he moved. Sugar was born with a deformed leg and couldn't manage alone in the streets. Someone told us about him and we decided to pick him up and see what we could do for him. So far all the veterinary opinions are to amputate the deformed leg. There is a slight problem with that as his remaining front leg also has a slight deformity and arthritis. We will soon be going ahead with the amputation having contacted everyone possible that may be able to come up with a better idea such as using a prosthetic leg. After the amputation Sugar will need a loving home where he will never be abandoned again. He is a needy dependent dog and craves attention. He doesn't get on with male dogs too well but is fine with females.

Ruby

ruby.jpg

Ruby is a Rottweiler and probably German shepherd cross.  She is somewhere between one and two years old, very affectionate with humans and some dogs but not all. She would be best suited to a household with no other dogs. She is energetic, extremely intelligent and has the potential to be trained to be a great dog. All she wants out of life is to please her humans.

Here is the story written by Darren Camilleri regarding the day she was found…

“Whilst I was at Dogs in Brazil, Carlos received a call from workers at the local cemetery about some dogs in need. We went to investigate and saw a Rotweiler cross. The Rotweiler was a stray living at the cemetery. I was almost in tears when I first saw her. She was so thin. Skin and bones and not much else. Carlos said she appeared to have the final stages of tick disease. We later found out after taking her to the vet that she had a fever of 41 degrees and would have died in 48 hours if left in that cemetery. Can you think back to a time when you have had a high fever, sick in bed, shivering with headaches and pain? Imagine being like this outside in a cemetery, with no one to care for you. Left to die. I will never forget that despite the obvious pain she was in when we found her, she wagged her tail in joy because we gave her our attention. Perhaps she knew we were going to save her.”

Milo

Milo.jpg

This photo was taken in February of 2015.  At the moment he is still just a baby at nearly six weeks old. He was the smallest of the litter from a small terrier type mom where only 3 puppies survived after their rescue. He is a fighter and has grown a lot. We are taking applications for him now although he cannot travel for a while. He will probably be a small dog as his Mom is tiny.
